![]() The objective of any network manager is to ensure the best possible utilization of network resources, including bandwidth. The most visible result of an optimized network is an improved user experience, lower CAPEX in additional network infrastructure and high-quality performance for all services, from casual Internet users to mission-critical traffic such as business systems, IP telephony and streaming services. The optimization process is a necessity, since traffic patterns and user behavior on the Internet are rapidly changing as more users go online and services utilize the Internet infrastructure as the communication carrier. Accurate identification and visualization of network
application traffic is the key to management and control. PacketLogic's
application traffic identification engine, DRDL, or Datastream Recognition
Definition Language, utilizes multiple Layer 2 to 7 properties (such
as URL, filename, SIP caller ID or chat channel) to eliminate
false positives and discover tunneling or masking behaviors. This
process extends network traffic inspection from Deep Packet Inspection
(DPI) to the next generation ¡V referred to as Deep
Flow Inspection (DFI) ¡V and allows PacketLogic to recognize and
manage packets with a context, thus providing a complete picture and
allowing the system to apply greater management and control intelligence
to network traffic.
PacketLogic is a modular traffic and
service management system that consists of five modules. The base
module, included in all PacketLogic Systems, is
the Surveillance module. Additional optional modules
include Filtering, Traffic Shaping,
Statistics, and WebStatistics. These
modules combine with the PacketLogic hardware platform to deliver a
unique, powerful and scalable network traffic management solution for
broadband service providers (BSPs) and others. Three
PacketLogic hardware platforms offer a range of configurations,
including the PL5600, PL7600 and PL7620, to serve medium-sized to very
large networks. Completing the PacketLogic product suite is the
PL1200 server, which can be configured:
